There was an event tonight at the Smart Museum (a museum on campus), and I decided to skip Model UN and go since my poetry professor said it would be really great. My roommate and I headed over and got Iraqi food from a food truck outside the museum (that was free! and served by Iraq war vets. And also said “enemy food kitchen” on the outside). As we wandered around trying to find a place to eat (it was insanely packed), we set up camp at an area that had some kind of table-like slab. A woman in all black with a thick Russian accent pushed pass and asked if she could put her plate down next to mine, and I obliged. We briefly chatted about the food until a girl came up to her and gushed how she was a huge fan of her work, during which I looked over at my roommate, shrugged, and continued eating. After the girl left, I talked to the woman again, this time asking her if I was supposed to eat a piece of food wrapped in a leaf with the leaf. She enthusiastically told me yes! I should eat it with the grape leaf. It was a Greek dish, didn’t I know? I thanked her.
LATER I FOUND OUT IT WAS MARINA ABRAMOVIC. Who I have been obsessed with since like 8th grade, but who I didn’t recognize because I hadn’t really seen any recent pictures of her.
Unreal. I am still in shock. And it’s at times like this when I love love love my school.
